Lindsey Craig has been a fully qualified practicing human physiotherapist for 12 years and has her own practice in Albany. She treats people with a wide variety of musculoskeletal injuries, and specializes in spinal rehabilitation.

Lindsey is a fully trained Pilates Instructor and uses this as a rehabilitation, and training tool for patients, and athletes. She has also trained in Dry Needling which is a technique that uses acupuncture needles to release trigger pointes within muscle tissue.

Lindsey did her Masters in Animal Physiotherapy in Australia in 2004 where she began her specialist work with horses, and other animals. She now treats performance horses for musculoskeletal and functional injuries or problems, and can adapt the techniques she uses with her human patients on horses. She uses her soft tissue techniques, dry needling, stretches, and functional strengthening and suppling exercises to help the horse with training and pain issues.
She works closely with the rider to assess the difficulties the horse may have due to many different issues, and she can also help treating the rider for any injuries, or problems in the saddle related to musculoskeletal issues and positioning in the saddle.

Lindsey sponsors Limonit for his physiotherapy component of his training. She frequently assesses him, and maintains his musculoskeletal system in top condition by regular contact with Andrea Bank where she is excellent at communicating any weaknesses or tightness she may feel when she rides him, and then we will fully investigate this from a movement and palpatory aspect and treat him accordingly. Like any human athlete, performance horses also suffer from tightness which needs to be regularly addressed to avoid accumulation of soft tissue dysfunction. The rider is also very important in the horse rider team, and it is essential that they maintain a balanced seat, and have good core stability, and that any muscular or joint problems are also addressed. She helps Andrea with keeping in good physical condition as part of Limonit’s sponsorship.

Lindsey has her human physiotherapy clinic at Pure Physio which is at c3, 396 Rosedale Road, Albany, and can be contacted on 448 1277 (clinic), or 021617378 (mobile), and purephysio@xtra.co.nz
