The North Island Dressage Champs were probably the biggest event on the competition calender in the North Island this season. For once the weather decided to be kind and as a result moisture was caused by sweat rather then dark grey clouds.
Another special moment was Andrea Bank on Bill Noble’s stallion Icarus Allsorts in the Grand Prix Freestyle. Apparently he had been exceeding naughty the previous day and produced unscheduled acrobatics in his test, so it was with trepidation that spectators watched the beginning of the freestyle. However Andrea rode like a star, kept her cool and produced a lovely flowing test to score a whopping 62%, second only to the Australian horse. When you consider how hard it is to get over 60% at Grand Prix level and that Andrea has only been riding him for a few months, this really was a great achievement.
